City Council adapts PUMP recommendations for Forrestal reserve
March 18, 2008

March 18, 2008 - The RPV city council voted to adapt the Public Use Master Plan recommendation for the Forrestal Reserve. Designations for the Cristo Que Viento Trail was changed to Pedestrian because it goes to Rolling Hills. This trail is part of the Palos Verdes Loop trail and will be rerouted in the future. Volunteer Trail Crew Training

The Palos Verdes Peninsula Land Conservancy will be hosting a training program beginning on April 5, 2008 for individuals that are interested in conducting volunteer trail maintenance.

The training program will use a combination of classroom, field exercise and key capability training to develop qualified individuals with the necessary skill sets to perform routine trail maintenance with minimal or no supervision. The program serves as the first step in recruiting and educating volunteers who have an interest in assuring safe, sustainable trails. The basic trail maintenance program will be a requirement for volunteers who wish to continue further by becoming qualified volunteer trail maintenance crew leaders.

The basic trail maintenance program will begin with a 4 hour classroom session. This session will discuss:             

·         The need for safe trails  

·         Trail safety

·         Resource protection

·         Terminology

·         Assessments

·         Basic trail maintenance:

·         Tools

·         Water bars

·         Slough and berm

·         Outsloping

·         Grade dips

·         Rock work

·         Brushing and pruning

·         Retaining structures

·         Switchbacks
